Camp Sadie

Allow me to introduce all of you to my friend, Frankie!   She's a special gal that comes over to play but this past week Frankie and I had a sleepover!  It was nice to have someone to hang around with during the day while Annette was at work.  Next week just won't be the same when Frankie goes back to her forever home!

We hope everyone as a restful, happy and safe Labor Day Weekend!

Just a Walk in the Park

Today was a day of reflection, adventure and (dare I say) a little bit of advice...

Reflection:   Today I remember my friend, neighbor and fellow canine, Lily.  She was a good ol' girl who fell ill and went to doggie heaven last night.  We just never know how much time we have with our human companions, do we?  Lily's human gave her such a great home with lots of walks and even  running.  Lots of treats and a great yard to lay in while keeping watch over her home.

My wish is that all of us (canines and  humans) take time to remember that life can be short and unexpected. So take time to love and be kind to one another just as Lily and her human did.

Adventure:   My favorite thing in the whole world is going for my walk with Annette.  The smells, sights, sounds... *sigh.   My last adventure (see previous blog entry) was coming face to face, well....face to shell, with a turtle.  Today I found out what a garter snake is.  Not one, but TWO garter snakes crossed my walking path today.  I've never seen one before and they are fast!  They also do a good job at changing directions as they move along and this really threw me off.  Before I knew it I had lost them.  Oh well...maybe I'll see them next time.

Speaking of the trail....the grass around the trail is getting nice and tall.  Good for hiding!

Advice:  This is for the good of all.  It is that time of year when not only cool critters are out, like turtles and snakes, but there are also a fair amount of not so cool critters lurking.  TICKS being my least favorite.  Second least favorite?  You guessed it...FLEAS.   So HUMANS...please remember to take the time to give us our monthly flea and tick prevention medicine.  It only takes a second but it protects us from the uncool critters lurking in the tall grass (see below).  HAVE A SAFE AND CRITTER FREE WEEKEND!

Can you see me?
Where did that snake go?!

Still searching....

My New Obsession

Allow me to introduce all of you to the best toy EVER in the world!   My purple ball.  I have to say I am obsessed with it and it's loads of fun because it's made of hard rubber and it squeaks!!  Well, it used to squeak.  I've bitten down on it so much that the squeaker has dislodged and is  now just laying inside the ball.  It still makes a fun noise when I shake my head with it in my mouth. Kind of like a big marble inside.

This was taken after I jumped in the pool!

A cool thing happened the other day on my walk.  Down by the creek I came across this turtle.  I've never seen a real live turtle before and he was so cool.  I loved how he smelled like the creek (because everyone knows how much I love the water)!   Anyway, he seemed pretty scared so Annette picked him up and we walked him back down to the water, where he promptly swam away.

Summer hasn't officially started but the weather is starting to get nice.  I've been changing a lot too lately.  Not as destructive, but still as playful!  I think Annette is ok with that. :)

Stay healthy, happy and safe everyone.  Don't fret the small stuff because in the grand span of life...does it really matter?

Ciao!!!!

Happy Memorial Day!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Please remember the troops of past and present conflicts as they fought and continue to fight for our freedom.  Many lost their lives in their brave efforts.  Many are still with us and some of those brave men and women are disabled.

Be compassionate with our veterans.  Listen to their stories if they want to tell them.  They have seen and done things beyond our comprehension.

So take a moment today to remember.

Bandana Day!

Today I had fun wearing some cool bandanas from my friends at http://bowwowdogbandanas.com/

They have fun designs and the best part is that they are designed so my collar slips through a wide slot on the end of the bandana that goes around my neck.  What a great idea!! Very comfy, too!

As always, here of some pictures of me sporting these fine accessories.  Bonus....it was snowing out!!!   :)

This one has hearts and xoxo's all over.

Getting ready for St. Patrick's Day!

Uh, oh...here comes an unsuspecting runner...

Fruit as Toys!

Every dog loves to play fetch with a ball.  My favorites are soccer, tennis and softballs.

At first I thought it was a funny shaped ball.  Then I grabbed it and ran with it.  What fun!  Frozen oranges and lemons roll fast and far and are great fun to chase.   I'm careful not to eat then though because they would upset my stomach. :)

Wow! That was sour!!!

The lemon is under my chin :)

Until We Meet Again....

Our dear friend, Merle, went to Heaven today.  She lost her battle with breast cancer.  Merle fought the good fight....always staying upbeat. She continued her daily (sometimes twice, three times daily) walks in my neighborhood.  When Annette would walk with Merle, she would sometimes take me.  I could tell it was a special walk because our pace was a little slower.

Friends, our time here on earth is temporary.  So short.  Life in Heaven is eternal.  Make your time here count.  Count your blessings.  Merle was gone too soon for us, but we know it was God's perfect plan in motion.

Merle, you're without pain now.  Your body is restored.  May you enjoy an enternity of walks along the pathways in Heaven.

Until We Meet Again,
Sadie and Annette

Happy New Year!

1-1-13....Another year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all my friends.  Today started too early for my weary eyes...5am!  And even though it was early it didn't seem to matter as the smell of food soon hit my nose.  Pork loin (drool) and sauerkraut (no drool) in the crock pot.  My other family member, Mike, is home on leave.  And Tracey, who is Annette's cousin, came over and they all ate while I worked to room extremely hard to get some scraps.  Mike was the only one who broke down and threw me some goodies.  So the day got even better as I had 2 walks!

As with any eventful day comes exhaustion.  I'm a tired pup with a full belly.  Wishing everying a very Happy New Year.  May the best of the year be yours!!!

Oranges!

Today I was given a totally new toy!   It all began this morning after I was being good (Santa....are you reading this?) while Annette was fiddling with a white machine that spit out an orange colored juice.  Annette gave me TWO orange halves with all the middles taken out.  They tasted good, but I think they were still alive because when I bit into one it squirted me with it's spray....some kind of defense mechanism for sure!  Here are some pictures of me playing with  my oranges~~  Sadie.

Looking for the hidden orange half.

This was right before the orange sprayed me in defense!

Victory!

Dear Santa....

Dear Santa, I have been trying so hard to be a good pup. I've only chewed up one cell phone and one rug in the past 2 months. That's not so bad....right?? I will continue to try to behave and listen to Annette. I would like lots of beef bones and tennis balls for Christmas. Puppy love, Sadie.

Mother and Daughter

Awwww....this picture reminds me of me and my mom. Mom is a Shepherd and dad is a Black Lab. My baby picture looks just like this pup!!

Deadline for Merle's Angels is almost here!

Hi to all of my friends! I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving. I am thankful for my forever home and all the good, healthy treats I get!! I want to thank everyone for being such wonderful supporters of Annette's friend, Merle. Your generosities will help with her medical bills. Merle has recently started another round of chemo, which is making her feel really bad. She can't do her favorite thing, going for a walk in the neighborhood, right now. Our little fundraiser is almost to an end. It closes on December 24th. I want to post the link again in case anyone wants to pass it on. Thank you so much!!!! We love all of you. http://www.giveforward.com/merlesangels Have a very MERRY Christmas everyone! ~Sadie.

Merle's Angels needs your help!

Everyone....

I don't know how much a canine like me can help, but I just have to try. You see, Annette has a friend named Merle who had breast cancer but was in remission for 15 yrs. About 1 1/2 yrs ago her cancer came back and she now has stage 4 breast cancer which has spread to her liver. I don't know what all this means but I can sense by the sadness in Annette's eyes that it is not good. I've heard her say that Merle's chemo is too expensive for her to keep using so the doctor had to switch her to something else but that isn't working.

Annette started a fund on a very cool website called GiveForward.com. Here is the link. If anyone feels it in their heart to give a little or whatever you feel comfortable giving we would be so grateful. ALL the monies that Merle receives will go directly toward her medical costs, which are climbing.

Thank you for visiting this blog and for reading my message. Will you be one of our angels?

Happy Birthday, Sadie!

That's right everyone! It's my birthday and I turned 2 years old today! Annette filled my pool and I had a blast running in and out of it. Lots of special treats!!!! I learned how to shake and walk instead of run and I'm learning how to stay out of the flower beds. I'm a big girl now!

Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day everyone. Hope you all had a nice day. I spent mine watching my human companion, Annette, work in the yard. She planted a lot of new plants. Ahhhh...fresh dirt to dig! Enjoyed my day outside chilling in the back yard and playing in the water. What did you do today?

Dog Day's of "almost" summer

Vacation is over and we're back. Having some fun in the water on a warm late mid-spring day. I just LOVE the water!

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

I was surprised and delighted to be visited by my long lost cousin Tracey! Annette was going to be gone an unusually long time today but I didn't know that this morning when she left. It was only when, mid-day, I heard the door open and was greeted by the soothing cooing sounds of my cousin Tracey. YEAH!!!!, I thought. She let me out of my kennel and out into the back yard where I finally was able to do all of my business.

Then the fun began. You guessed it! Running around the yard with all of my various toys. Parading around with my kong toy, my ball and my cannoli bones (sans cannoli). Of course, I found my rock, a blob of concrete that fits nicely in my mouth. Annette doesn't like when I run with this in my mouth, but I thought cousin Tracey would see the joy it brings to me. She did not. She managed to charm it out of my mouth and I think she was trying to tell me that it wasn't good for me, but I'm not sure. Oh well, I won't listen to such talk anyway.

Some time went by before she had to leave and I happily went back into my safe place because I knew what was coming....that's right....more treats for me!!!! I had such a nice break in my day playing with C.T. and I hope to see her again real soon!!!!

Jaxson

Today on my walk I met a brand new dog friend named Jaxson. His human companion's name was Clark and they just moved here from Arizona. Jaxson was light in color, as if he could have been a caramel candy with 4 legs and a tail. I'm not sure what this means but I heard Annette say, "what a beautiful golden!", when we were getting closer to them.

My new friend and I greeted each other in the usual dog fashion and I could tell he had some spunk in him....just like me! Hopefully, if we meet again, Annette will have her camera and take some pictures of us playing.

Did you see the fish tank at the bottom of this page? Check it out & when you do be sure to click anywhere in the tank to feed the fish.

Silly things dog's do...

Tonight I thought I'd try to fit as many toys into my mouth at one time that I could.

Good times! :-)

Holy Cannoli!

It's no secret that my favorite treats are marrow bones. I have them stashed all over the house and outside. But did you know that the absolute BEST way to repurpose these yummy jaw busters is to make them into a canine cannoli? Oh yes, cannoli! I thought I'd tease you all with some pictures of one from tonight. Of course, Annette got a couple pictures of me totally in the moment:

I love these things SO MUCH!
I hope you try them out on your canine!!

What-A-Day!

Today started off pretty much like any other day. I woke up and got released from my safe place (aka kennel), grabbed a toy and paraded around as if I were just presented before the Queen of England. I stretched a little and took a drink of water. Then I went outside until I wanted to come back in, at which time I bumped into the door as hard as I could to get Annette's attention and then she let's me in. "My goodness, Sadie, you don't have to beat the door down!"

Later in the day we went to the dog park to meet 2 dogs, in particular, that I may be staying with for a short time. One is named Miles and the other is named Sadie. Now, I'm thinking if I do stay with these nice people that it might get confusing for me. How will I know when they're are speaking to me or the other Sadie? I see a slight tap on the head prompting in my future....

So we get to the park and there are lots and lots of dogs there. I am running all over the place. Then I finally meet Miles, who is a little smaller than I am, and Sadie, who is fairly larger and taller than I am. But we all got along just fine and run until we are out of steam. There was one dog there that I was playing with for a bit and things were going just fine until he took our play to the next level and decided to plant a canine (tooth) to my right eyebrow. Since I was far away from Annette and had not idea which way to look to find her, I let out a fine yelp and sure enough she heard it and came to get me. I'm okay....it only bled for a little bit and it didn't keep me from playing at all.

We left the park and went for a short car ride, something I am starting to enjoy. I don't get nearly as green in the face as I used to. We ended up at a house and I was so happy to see Miles and Sadie again. WOW!!!! I was at their house!! And they had a garden pond in their back yard! Oh my, oh my, oh my....I couldn't help myself as I barreled as fast as I could and jumped in!! Then...I hunkered down and swam!!! Miles and Sadie just watched and everyone was yelling at me....or maybe it was the other Sadie??? I knew this would be confusing to me. Not too much time went by and I knew the shouting was directed toward me. So I jumped out and Miles and Sadie and I played some more. What a blast I had. I hope they did too. Here is a picture of the 3 of us:

Sadie, Miles and me

Sadie and me

After all this, we went home and Annette got out my own personal pool and, once again, I was playing in the water! This is the best day EVER!
and nothing beats my favorite marrow bone! What-A-Day!!

Worn out!

I also just HAVE TO show you this awesome dog bandana my Uncle Mike sent to me from his friend who makes them. Visit Bow Wow Dog Bandanas Website to check out more cool dog bandanas. They are so COOL!!! Thank you, Uncle Mike!
